ReportPrepare the onions
Slice the onions thinly.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and add the sliced onions.
Cook the onions slowly, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
Add sugar and balsamic vinegar, stir well, and cook for another 5 minutes.
Cook the burgers
Divide the ground beef into equal portions (about 125g each) and form them into loose balls.
Heat a griddle or skillet over high heat and place the beef balls on it.
Use a spatula to smash the balls down into patties and season with salt and pepper.
Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and place a slice of cheese on each patty.
Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
Assemble the burgers
Toast the burger buns lightly on the griddle.
Layer lettuce, the burger patty with melted cheese, caramelized onions, and pickles on the bottom bun.
Spread ketchup on the top bun and close the burger.
